Most customers purchasing this strain name their pets “Casper,” “Ghost,” “Silk,” “Cotton,” “Milk,” or “Snow.” It’s not difficult to see why. Although not entirely 100% white, the Snow White discus is as close as you’ll get without getting into super premium Albino strains. The stark white patternless color scheme of this fish breaks up the monotony in collection that is otherwise a sea of color and patterns. A hybrid discus collector should always have at least 1 of these discus in their collection for this reason.

This glistening pale Discus isn’t completely red-eyed the way a true albino would be, but it’s about as close as you can get. And while it’s named the “Snow White”, this particular hybrid puts us more in mind of the White Witch from Narnia. In the world of Narnia, the White Witch was the last of her kind, a near-immortal would-be queen who destroyed an entire world with the utterance of a single word. We hope for your sake that the Snow White you choose isn’t that powerful. Things could get awkward at home if your witch-fish uses her magic to prolong winter indefinitely, or starts turning her political enemies to stone. But on the plus side, if you give one of these beauties a home in your tank, it may well offer you some delicious Turkish delight in exchange for a cube of freeze-dried
black worms.*

As I said yesterday, I could not be happier with my discus. I thought I sent photos earlier but maybe they didn't go through. These fish are growing and getting more beautiful every day. They eat Omega One Flakes and frozen brine shrimp but their favorite food is frozen bloodworms which they are willing to take from my hand. Thank you, Michael, for sending me the best of the best!

To say that I was beyond thrilled with my Discus would be an understatement. I couldn't be happier with Michael's picks. He really went out of his way to accommodate my requests. The fish arrived packaged extremely well, and took no time to get acclimated to my tank. I will be a repeat customer for sure, and suggest that you dismiss any reservations you might have about ordering from Discus.com (You get what you pay for, and in my case I feel that I got more.) Thanks to Mike and all at Discus.com. It was an extremely positive experience!

Hi, Good Morning. Just received my fish order # 11171, Can you look into my below issues? Thanks. Issue 1: I received the wrong size snow white discus. It is small and not even 4 inches. It is close to 3.5 inches. Pictures are attached before opening the bags for reference. Hi, My eyes are hurting from seeing this small fish. If I want 3.5-inch fish I should have ordered all 6 discus fish at a 3.5-inch size which saves my money as well and even I get this small size at my local pet shop. I don't expect this kind of response from so-called reputable online US discuss store. If you don't have the size, you should contact me or cancel my order. I want to return this fish. Issue 2: I did not receive any tankmates which you promised to send me in my next order. From Michael: You ordered 4-4.5”, and according to your unclear in-water tape measure photo, we are arguing about a half-inch difference. If you measure the other fish in your order, you'll likely see that some of those sizes were upgraded. If you would like, I can try again and ship you a different specimen when I receive my next shipment. You have ordered from me multiple times, but your insistence on this trivial matter seems to suggest to me that you are being unreasonable.

Hey Michael, not only did they arrived extremely healthy looking discus, no frayed fins active and upright, eating right away. The are truly beautiful. You really  went out of your way to pick fish as close to what i asked for. They are truly beautiful. I was really  impressed with the packing, loved the rubber band closures , no leaking. Triple thick bags, WAO. think my wife , who unpacked and acclimated them (I was working). She saved all the packing materials, so I would see them. Great improvement over all. Even FedEx arrived early. Could not really say anything more positive. Yes. Box well labeled, sure helped a lot with handling. I was hesitant to order due to prior unpleasant experience(ups). Happy I order these 5, 5in discus. Fyi, this quarantine tank has a color enhancing light, but beautiful with no light at all. Michael did not pay pay me to say this.

Your ears must have been ringing, as I just spoke with my husband this AM about ordering more discus! What types do you have coming in?

Several fish I have received over the past year (not all from you) have not turned out to be the "reds" I wanted, and are staying yellow/orange as they mature. Disappointing to some degree because I didn't want to end up with any color in prominence, but they are nice discus. I just want to balance things out a bit so I'm looking for more blue and more true red. I have several picked out either in my shopping card or in my saved list, but I need to limit each order since they need to go thru quarantine in a smaller tank.

The fish I received from you are all maturing nicely. I did lose a Blue Tiger Carnation Turquoise a day or two after I received order, and that was disappointing so I'll be ordering that again. The Fuji Red and Fiamma Rossa have no red showing at all. Not sure if they're still too young, but I would've expected some color by now as they arrived the end of January. I don't see any maturing as the Silver Pigeon Leopard either....none have anything resembling it. I'm patiently awaiting transitions!

I'll send some photos of my tanks from my phone in separate e-mail.  In addition to the two 210g tanks I will be putting my 125g back into service soon.

So, if you can, let me know what nice blue and/or reds you have coming in. I'll compare that to what I already have in my cart and get an order to you today if possible :)

One red was dead yesterday which is completely the ups driver and doesn't look like the second penang is doing well either... the big red one and a white one were as you know the only survivors of the first shipment that I was never actually notified would be arriving and as of right now I've only lost the red from the second order again I know now exactly why they were in such rough shape the driver did not care at all what the label said and when I said something about it he was very nonchalant and dismissive. He basically told me "oh well."

Wow.....what a terrific experience I've had in getting my fish from Discus.com.  The fish are absolutely stunning and I'm ultra happy sitting by them watching their majestic swimming and aquarium presence.

I must say, however, that the fantastic effort Mike Li put into helping me, answering my questions, and even texting/calling me to see how things were going is THE most important part of the whole experience.  He so very much wanted me to be happy, know certain facts, and have success with my five gorgeous fish.  All too often, sellers make the sale and then drop off the face of the planet.  Not Mike......he made this newbie to Discus keeping feel reassured and greatly lessened the anxieties associated in such an endeavor.  I've been into fish for fifty years, Koi pounding for twenty, and I'm a retired biology teacher, but there was much to learn from him for which I'm indeed grateful.  I even have a few fish on the Discus.com wishlist as I'm sure to buy from him again after my current five are all settled and established.  Great products with super service.....what a combination. The money spent was well worth it......I could not be more pleased. Since there are no 'star' ratings for the transaction\review, I'm using these five stars as my rating (five being the best).........

Natural Habitat for Discus

Discus are found in floodplain lakes and flooded forests of the lowland Amazon River basin and some of its tributaries, including the Rio Negro.  These areas experience extreme changes in water level due to seasonal flooding.  Discus tend to congregate near fallen trees, known as “galhadas”, along the shore.  They prefer quiet water, and are rarely found in areas where there is strong current or wave action.

Discus Water Requirements

Discus prefer warm, soft, acidic water.  pH should be between 6.0 and 7.0, with hardness between 1° and 4° dKH (18 to 70 ppm).  Temperature should be kept between 82° and 89° F. Water conditions for both wild and hybrid discus are the same. While captive bred discus can be kept in dechlorinated tap water  reverse osmosis or deionized water supplemented will ensure the the best conditions. Discus require pristine water quality, and depending on the filtration system being used, a weekly or bi-weekly water change of 10% to 25% is highly recommended. Don’t forget to treat tap water with conditioner before refilling your aquarium!

Housing Requirements for Discus

Discus grow to be quite large, and full sized discus will require an aquarium of 50 gallons or larger when they reach adult size.  Tall aquariums are best, to accommodate their body shape.  Current should be gentle, and décor if used at all should include large broadleaf plants and driftwood that is arranged vertically to simulate downed branches and trees.  A few floating plants can also be added to provide shaded areas and cover. Substrate should be fine to medium grade and smooth surfaced, as discus like to forage along the bottom for food.

Discus Behavior/Compatibility

Discus are generally calm, peaceful fish, but as cichlids they can be aggressive toward one another, especially when attempting to pair off and spawn.  Shy or submissive fish should be removed if they are unable to compete. Most serious hobbyists do not mix their discus with too many other species. However, suitable aquarium mates include cardinal tetras, neons, emperor and rummy nose tetras, as well as clown loaches and dwarf cichlids such as rams and Apistogramma species. All of these fish tolerate the high temperatures and low pH/hardness required by discus.

What do Discus Eat?

In nature discus eat a considerable amount of plant material and detritus, but also forage along the bottom looking for worms and small crustaceans.  They are omnivores and will thrive on freeze dried black worms, beefheart, frozen blood worms, and a variety of pellet and flake food. Frozen and live foods may be fed as treats or to help induce spawning.  For best results, rotate their diet daily and feed only what they can consume in 2 to 3 minutes, once or twice a day.

Discus Breeding Level – Difficult

Captive bred discus will pair up and spawn relatively easily, but young, inexperienced parents may eat their eggs the first few times, particularly if other fish are present.  After hatching the young feed on heavy body mucus secreted by the parents for a few days until they begin to free-swim.  Parents will transfer the young back and forth several times a day.

Q: How are your stated fish measurements conducted?
