Golden Pearl Pigeon Snakeskin Discus
$67.00 – $109.00
A creamy-yellow base serves as the backdrop for the dramatic, red snakeskin pattern found on this magnificent fish. The reddish hues deepen considerably as they approach the dorsal fin, which, along with the anal fin, is sometimes marked with iridescent blue stripes. A dull-brown, semi-transparent caudal fin adds a hint of subtlety to this otherwise lustruous hybrid.

Natural Habitat for Discus
Discus are found in floodplain lakes and flooded forests of the lowland Amazon River basin and some of its tributaries, including the Rio Negro. These areas experience extreme changes in water level due to seasonal flooding. Discus tend to congregate near fallen trees, known as “galhadas”, along the shore. They prefer quiet water, and are rarely found in areas where there is strong current or wave action.
Discus Water Requirements
Discus prefer warm, soft, acidic water. pH should be between 6.0 and 7.0, with hardness between 1° and 4° dKH (18 to 70 ppm). Temperature should be kept between 82° and 89° F. Water conditions for both wild and hybrid discus are the same. While captive bred discus can be kept in dechlorinated tap water reverse osmosis or deionized water supplemented will ensure the the best conditions. Discus require pristine water quality, and depending on the filtration system being used, a weekly or bi-weekly water change of 10% to 25% is highly recommended. Don’t forget to treat tap water with conditioner before refilling your aquarium!
Housing Requirements for Discus
Discus grow to be quite large, and full sized discus will require an aquarium of 50 gallons or larger when they reach adult size. Tall aquariums are best, to accommodate their body shape. Current should be gentle, and décor if used at all should include large broadleaf plants and driftwood that is arranged vertically to simulate downed branches and trees. A few floating plants can also be added to provide shaded areas and cover. Substrate should be fine to medium grade and smooth surfaced, as discus like to forage along the bottom for food.
Discus Behavior/Compatibility
Discus are generally calm, peaceful fish, but as cichlids they can be aggressive toward one another, especially when attempting to pair off and spawn. Shy or submissive fish should be removed if they are unable to compete. Most serious hobbyists do not mix their discus with too many other species. However, suitable aquarium mates include cardinal tetras, neons, emperor and rummy nose tetras, as well as clown loaches and dwarf cichlids such as rams and Apistogramma species. All of these fish tolerate the high temperatures and low pH/hardness required by discus.
What do Discus Eat?
In nature discus eat a considerable amount of plant material and detritus, but also forage along the bottom looking for worms and small crustaceans. They are omnivores and will thrive on freeze dried black worms, beefheart, frozen blood worms, and a variety of pellet and flake food. Frozen and live foods may be fed as treats or to help induce spawning. For best results, rotate their diet daily and feed only what they can consume in 2 to 3 minutes, once or twice a day.
Discus Breeding Level – Difficult
Captive bred discus will pair up and spawn relatively easily, but young, inexperienced parents may eat their eggs the first few times, particularly if other fish are present. After hatching the young feed on heavy body mucus secreted by the parents for a few days until they begin to free-swim. Parents will transfer the young back and forth several times a day.

Fish look great so far we have 3 other discus and everyone is getting along so far. I appreciate the excellent quality discus. They’re beautiful and just what we were hoping they would be.
Hi Michael, all the fish arrived live and healthy. As usual, a couple of them looked pretty stressed and/or doped up, but this morning they're looking fine. A few of them are huddling in a tank corner, but I expect they're finding comfort in their company and not yet ready to investigate their environment. The Lollipop is all yellow, no red at all, so hoping it will color up over time. Only a couple of them ate last night, so hopefully today they'll all be interested. Thanks, Rob.
So pretty bro, thank you.
The fish look amazing. Great job with the packing and shipping.
Where should i post my review ? I need everyone to know how satisfied I am. All the fish were in great health when received! Very satisfied with my order ! Thank you. Only issue I've had is it looks like I received two orange discus and one was suppose to be a Fuji red and also my golden nugget pleco was a different color. Would definitely recommend you guys and I will be buying more schooling fish from you!
Did you receive the other pics I sent? Also one of my fish has two white spots on the side when I got it. I didn’t say anything because I remembered reading that that can happen during shipping. But the spots are gone now. I can tell that u feed those by hand sometimes. Just how they respond. The other fish I got from you they don’t do it as much. Probably because they were younger. But the new fish they all eat from my hand when I feed them . It feels funny to have numerous fish nibbling from your hand at the same time :-)
These are the best I could get, hope they work out, thanks. I had some manzanita that was amazing but was hard to do maintenance around so I removed it, thanks for the tips.
Yes they arrived nice they are beautiful and big thanks.
My order number was 10xxx. Just wanted to let you know my order arrived at noon today and wanted to show you the condition it was in. The bottom of the box was soaking wet when UPS driver handed me the box. The bottom of the foam chest was broken and full of water. The Golden Lollipop’s bag was almost completely out of water. I immediately emptied the bags into a bucket for acclimating. The Golden Lollipop was just lying flat on the bottom of the bucket- everyone else was swimming around. After acclimating was completed I transferred them to the tank. Everyone is swimming around except the Golden Lollipop- it is just sitting on the bottom of the tank. Hopefully it will recover but looks like being almost out of water in the bag might take its toll. I'm a little disappointed in the Golden Pearl Pigeon Snakeskin- it was supposed to be 3 1/2-4" while the rest were all 3- 3 1/2". It is by far the smallest fish I got and I don't think it is even 3". Thank you Bill From Michael: Bill, I'm sorry about the mishap with UPS, but I'm glad all of your fish are alive. We have no control over UPS once the fish leave our hands. You're holding a ruler to the side of the tank. We measure our fish out of water from tip of nose to end of tail.
I love them, They are doing really well except for the Red Eagle that past away a couple days after shipping. It was past your 12 hour window so I did not make a fuss about it. He almost had no water left in the bag but thought he had a 50/50 shot.
I will definitely order again from you.
Dan
Yes all fish arrived safely and as always they are beautiful.
They were great everything was exactly as I ordered and no losses. Pics are of the fish you're ordering... I've received 10x fish so far.
Hi Michael, I just want you to know all the fish I purchased from you is very healthy and eating. I’ve waited about a week like you said for the color. I am very happy with 4 of them but displeased with two. They don’t look anywhere near the photos on the website. Please let me know what we can do. The two fish are the golden leopard discus 3.5-4 in and the golden lollipop 3.5-4 in. Look forward from hearing from you. From Michael: Hi Danny, it’s great hearing from you. Your fish look spectacular in your setup. There’s nothing to be disappointed in, as you ordered baby fish. Please review our FAQs for more clarity.
The discus appear to be doing well. I'm a little concerned about the golden pearl, one of the gills are staying open. I haven't noticed the gill moving much at all, but the fish has been actively swimming around the tank so far. The gold nugget pleco and both german reds are absolutely beautiful. I understand there are variants in colors and patterns in these fish but I am admittedly slightly disappointed in the golden leopard. The fish I received is a solid peach color and in my opinion doesn't represent what I purchased. I also didn't receive the free gift that was mentioned in an email on October 11th, and the fish weren't packed with stress coat per the acclimation instructions on your website. From Michael: I've been running low on stress coat (which was the free gift) due to an extreme influx of orders. Sorry about that. You ordered small 3" fish, and based on your photos, they appear to be correct baby-version matches of the adults you see pictured on my website.
Hopefully the two living one (discus ) will make it.
Good afternoon Michael happy Friday. This is Brent R. the fish delivered Tuesday and I love them. This is from yesterday afternoon when I turned on the lights! I was wearing my Discus.com tshirt yesterday when I was acclimating my fish.
Hi Michael, I wanted to let you know that my discus are all doing fine. I wasn't sure if my golden pearl discus was going to make it due to the UPS late delivery but he has recovered well. they are all beautiful. I do have a small issue with my Neon Sapphire discus. he arrived with a small white wound on his side. I treated the water with API Stress Coat Plus before introducing them to the tank and once again 3 days later. none are eating yet but they all occasionally come out of hiding and swim around gracefully. Should I think about removing my wounded discus to a quarantine tank and treat him for his wound or should i give him time to settle in and heal. I will try and get a picture of his wound and send you. we absolutely love our discus. they look just like your pictures. Can't wait to add some more yellows and reds as they really pop! Thank you Michael.
Michael, I want you to know first that I will not leave a negative review despite my disappointment having not received what I ordered. Your shipment arrived without a loss (despite missing two fish) the packing was suspect as there were more heat packs (four in total) the nine bags of fish were put inside a black garbage bag and into the styrofoam container without any further insulation in the middle of winter & an unscheduled delivery that I just happened to be home to receive. I am very impressed with your website, knowledge & customer service and I wished things would have turned out better. The Discus are doing very well with one bully (Golden Pearl Snakeskin) and I am quite pleased looking forward to their growth. Have a good day & best wishes for you & your business. From Michael: I'm working closely with the customer to resolve all outstanding issues with his order.
All of the fish arrived safely and are now settled in and are loving life. They look great and we are very happy with them. Thank you. I sent them all in a few different emails because it wouldn't let me send them all in the same one. Hope you get them all. We look forward to doing more business with you in the near future.
Just wanted to let you know the fish order arrived today at 10:20 ET. Everyone came out of the box alive and so far, doing well...More
Good Morning Michael,
