Hey Michael! I’m thrilled with the discus I’ve gotten from you, still. A quick question for you: I’m not sure why, but my discus keep peppering a lot. I wish they wouldn’t. Especially the silver pigeon that I got from you. It came in beautifully and so light. My tank has a white sand substrate, fully planted and good lighting. There’s no background on the tank, and the room it is in is usually dark, but the wall behind it is light grey. Do you have any suggestions? Photo attached for reference. Thanks! From Michael: I would try using even stronger lighting by increasing the wattage. Also, if you truly wish to focus on removing peppering, you need to remove the plants and decor from your tank and go with bare-bottom or a very light substrate.
Fish are all alive and look healthy. Will monitor closely but think they made it. Thanks for checking.
I can’t get too close to the tank or they all hide.
I guess they’re still stressed out from travel. Hopefully they start to look better than what they do. And they mostly pick at each other back-and-forth is that normal?
Please see my review of the two German Red Turquoise Discus, Red Base Discus for more details of my experience of this purchase.
Never known anyone like Michael who communicates with you when needed in a timely manner but he really does care about how the fish are doing and keeping you on track to raise them the right way.
Michael has been great with giving me any advice I needed. I highly recommend you do not skip the Discus.com Learning Center no matter what your knowledge level may be. It is loaded with information you want find anywhere else on Discus, their water parameter, feeding, etc.
I started with a 20 gallon aquarium more than 40 years ago and have owned at least one to three tanks ever since. I’ve been keeping aquariums from freshwater to reef tanks for over 40 years and still continue to learn from the best. I’ve had everything from breeding assortments of Mollies to extensive reef tanks. I did Discus when I was a Technical Sergeant in the US Air Force in the dorm at Osan AFB, South Korea more than 30 years ago and fell in love with them then. This is my first experience with them in the States and I can assure you Michael is one of the best teachers on the planet.
All fish are doing fine Packaging was great. I do a water change everyday now since they will be in here for a month or more. I bumped up the temp as instructed to go to 88. Almost there. Thanks for shipping the frozen worms out right away.
