Often referred to as a Red Alencer or Red Alenquer, the Alenquer discus fish is of the brown strain of discus. Brown Discus are often found near Belem and Rio Urubu, and used to be the most common discus fish strain available for collectors. The Alenquer is named after their native habitat, which is the where they’re caught—a specific region of the Amazon River. Typical of brown discus, the Alenquer’s coloration ranges from brown, to yellowy-brown, to a reddish-brown with streaks on the fins and sometimes head. Often breeders will attempt to eradicate these black stress bars naturally found on the Alenquer, also highlighting any potential red coloration.
