The White Butterfly strain was invented by Tony Tan. Genetically, this strain carries Pigeon genes, hence the facial patterning. The combination of its patterned yellow face and white body makes this a gorgeous and highly desirable strain by collectors. The white butterfly discus fish has three pattern forms. One is the original solid form. The others are the spotted white butterfly and the striped white butterfly discus fish. The White Butterfly is the result of selective breeding of the Checkerboard Pigeon Blood Discus fish. The red checkerboard drawing was partially completely removed so that only the pearly white base color is left.
